Audiometry for cochlear implants

By connecting the audiometer directly to the CI speech processor, patients with cochlear implants can be assessed specifically. This feature is available on the AT2000 and the AT800.

The right test setup for your research question

Speech comprehension in quiet and noisy environments, hearing from different directions, or assessments in cases of unilateral hearing loss: audiometry with cochlear implants requires measurement conditions that are suited to the patient’s specific situation and the aim of the assessment.

AURITEC offers free-field and multi-channel measurements for this purpose, as well as direct signal output to CI processors. The AT2000 and AT800 form the basis for clinical examinations; the AT-research enables customised research set-ups. Suitable test procedures and ERKI for assessing directional hearing round off the range of equipment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about audiometry with a cochlear implant

Answers regarding measurement methods, direct connectivity and expanded analysis options.

In free-field testing, the signal is played back through loudspeakers and picked up by the CI processor’s microphones. In direct audiometry, the signal is transmitted to the compatible processor via a cable or a suitable streamer.

The processor, transmission path and audiometer must be compatible with one another. Calibration, input processing and processor settings must also be adjusted for the measurement and documented.

Different signals can be output simultaneously via several transducers. For example, speech and background noise from different directions can be reproduced, and a separate masking signal can be used where required. The test setup depends on the power supply situation and the purpose of the investigation.

The choice depends on age, language skills, comprehension of the tasks and the aim of the assessment. OLSA enables the assessment of speech comprehension in the presence of background noise. OLKISA and SIMAT use shorter word sequences. Availability and administration are tailored to the audiometry system and the person being assessed.
